Drop in sessions for all seniors, or Junior members (sixth form age) or who play for the senior teams, run each week of the year:
Mondays | 5 astro courts in the daylight evenings and 4 in the evenings when lights are required | 6:00 – 8:00pm |
Wednesdays | bottom three courts all year | 6:00 – 8:00pm |
Sundays | bottom three courts | 10:00 – 12:00 noon |
Sessions are run on a roll up basis and therefore it is impossible to gauge how many will turn up. There is a difference in the court numbers allocated seasonally due to having two full time coaches that work evenings. The head coach has an astro court all year round at his disposal and his assistant has an astro on a Monday & Wednesday when it is impossible to use the tarmac courts due to the lack of light. He reverts back to Tarmac when the nights get lighter.
Structure of the Sessions
One or more of the regular session players will normally run these sessions, and be available at the start of the session.
New members should make themselves known to the session organiser, who will introduce them to other players and allocate them into a doubles group.
A system has been established to enable everyone to play and mix in with as many different members as possible, in a fair rotation system.
When players arrive they should go onto a court to make up a four. Once there are enough to warrant organisation, players will be listed by the activator on the session chart. All players will be called in and then be sent to a court in fours. When a four has been made up then play can start and a doubles game of 20-25 minutes or so will be played.
If all the courts are full, and additional players are waiting the activator will mix in the waiting players into the court rotation sheet, to play in the next switch round.
When a four has been established, please set up the pairing to ensure that the pairs are balanced so that the game is relatively even.
Inevitably in busier times, members will have to be patient whilst waiting for a court, and in circumstances where there are uneven numbers, members must use some element of common sense and flexibility to the above system.
Enjoy and have Fun!
Used balls are available in the club-night box which can be found in a cupboard near the office, strictly 3 balls per court are permitted, this should help to prolong the life of the balls provided.
When the courts are no longer required attendees are required to turn out the lights. If you are the last to leave please close the blinds and lock the door with both locks.
The committee reserves the right to cancel clubnight if the courts are required for other club purposes, this is very rare as the committee recognise the importance of the club roll up sessions but are also aware that demands on the courts is high due to the large membership.
