Coaching

Coaching is an important part of club life at Hartford. For beginners, improvers or serious players, our enthusiastic and dedicated coaching team delivers a full and comprehensive programme.

We run a full tennis development programme aimed at all standards and abilities from 4 – 90, no one is turned away on ability. As Hartford is the only LTA registered facility in the village, we have two full time LTA Licensed coaches (Head Coach: John Walsh, Assistant coach: Jarrod Wood), and a support team including a further LTA coach and numerous tennis leaders and assistant coaches.

John Walsh is our Head Coach and is responsible for the entire tennis programme at Hartford, ranging from Saturday morning junior coaching (drop in, no need to book), junior performance squads (that run 4-6pm on week days), Junior Tennis Camps, our schools programme, through to individual and group lessons and sessions for our teams.

Jarrod Wood is our assistant coach, he works under the direction of John to support and maintain the tennis programme as well as offering individual and group lessons.

If you are interested in any of our coaching options please call John on 07801 822855, leave a message on the club answerphone 01606 872664 or send a message. In the first instance and John or Jarrod will get back to you.

John Walsh

Head Coach

John started coaching full time in 1992, he is one of Cheshire’s well known and respected coaches. He won Cheshire LTA coach of the year in 2012 and has worked at Hartford Tennis Club since 1999, increasing the membership and helping to improve the facilities.

John takes charge of the whole programme, from being the main venue administrator , to running a highly successful coaching programme.

John is all about the club and its members, he is always at the club with a smile and a laugh, the coaching programme has produced several good junior players, that have gone on to represent both the county and the clubs senior teams.

Jarrod Wood

Assistant Coach

Jarrod is one of the afore mentioned successes of the clubs coaching programme. He is fully qualified, having gained a number of years experience working with John and taking on board his coaching style and techniques.

Jarrod didn’t stop there though, he finished his personal training qualifications, which has  enabled him to help members achieve better fitness as well as tennis skills. Jarrod is a great hit with the kids as he has a friendly youthful style which endears him to all.

Dave Forrest

Volunteer Assistant Coach

Dave, or “Superdave” to give him his full title, is a retired coach that dedicates his free time on a Saturday Morning to help with the Junior Coaching sessions. Dave wants to put something back into a sport that he has got so much out of.

He is a great asset to both the club and the coaching programme and his energy and enthusiasm is second to none.
